As part of our support of the North-east's music scene, we're happy to announce a free seminar event on Wednesday 4th December featuring some well-known contributors.
The purpose is to discuss music promotion in Aberdeen and how the city can develop and build its reputation. As a result of the event, we'll be looking to try and produce a blueprint for developing music across the region, involving individuals and groups from the local music scene.
Taking part will be Matthew Young (Owner of Song, by Toad Records and a well-known blogger/podcaster), who will be sharing his experiences of starting up a blog in Edinburgh and ending up running a successful independent record label. He'll be joined by local musicians CS Buchan (fresh from his successful album launch last weekend) and also Amy Sawers, who has just returned from a promotional trip to Los Angeles with her label Fat Hippy Records.
Our final panel member is Steven Milne, who is the Music Programmer at the Lemon Tree, gig promoter through Dirty Hearts Club and frontman of one of Aberdeen's most successful bands The Little Kicks.
The discussion will be hosted by 57º North's Stevie Kearney and we'll be looking for questions from audience members whenever possible.
Starting at 6pm, the event is taking place at Seventeen on Belmont Street. Spaces are limited to 30 though, so this event is initially reserved for those involved in the music industry, whether as musicians, promoters, media, PR, labels, venues etc. To apply for a ticket, please email stevie@shmu.org.uk, briefly outlining your involvement in the music industry
